Hi and welcome to 2018 we will be holding our first general meeting on Thursday the 15th of February 2018 at 5:30pm at our home shed at the Kalbar Show Grounds all welcome.
The September school holidays began with the first stage of the Falcons’ Strategy for Growth coming to fruition. Fresh from receiving a Wright Community Volunteer Award recognising his past work with the club, Project Manager David Edgeworth and past club President Shane Taylor, organised a group of Community minded business owners with the equipment and know-how to get the job done within the given time frame – no mean feat knowing how busy life can be for a business owner.
Monday 18th September the group assembled at Boonah State High School and set to work. Kent Dover with his Kubota digger broke and loaded the cricket pitch slabs onto a 20 tonne truck provided and operated by Mark Bullock of Club Silver Sponsor Raceview Sand and Gravel. Mark disposed of the concrete and returned with 20 cubic metres of fill ready to be levelled by Trevor Baker with his skid steer, which was completed Wednesday morning. Now we await rain to get the grass growing.
With thanks to Boonah State High School for their preparedness to allow the project to get underway, the club now has the ability to use this facility for training in 2018, attracting more players to the club due to ease of access after school. If required, the field will also allow junior football up to Under 11 to be played in Boonah on Saturday mornings.
Phase two will be to make the area safe for use by covering watering points, lowering soccer goal post foundations and filling a couple of low points across the field. This phase is due for completion December 2017.
The club is now looking to assist Boonah State High School to improve the entire oval area with a view to constructing a full size AFL field ready for the start of Season 2019, giving the club and the Fassifern community access to two first class sporting facilities.
Back in term one, four current and past Falcons – Eli, William, Micah and Ben – trialled for the Ipswich Region Under 12 AFL team. By all accounts the four boys represented their school and the Falcons with pride and showed off their skills to their best ability. Eli and William were selected to play in the Ipswich Region team at the Met West trials, a fantastic effort from both boys and a credit to their past coaches, especially for William to be selected as an 11 year old. Unfortunately, Micah and Ben weren’t selected for the Ipswich team. The two boys were extremely unlucky to miss out as this was the first year the coaches have had too many players to be able to take them all through to the next stage.
After a couple of rained out days, the Met West trials were eventually held at Sherwood where Eli was selected to play in the team and travelled to Mackay to participate in the State Championships.
The Met West team had a very successful carnival, placing third overall out of 12 teams. They played seven games, winning five of them and were very pleased to beat Met North and Met East. Throughout the carnival Eli was given the opportunity to play in several positions, kicking 5 goals and given two awards – Best on Ball in one game and Best Team Player in another.
Eli thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience, especially the experience of travelling and bonding with a team.
Congratulations Eli, you are a fantastic representative for your school and the Falcons!
Thank you to Scott & Kate for the following photos taken over the course of the carnival at Mackay.

A massive congratulations to Levi H! A 50 game veteran of the Falcons, Levi was lucky enough to win a $200 Amart Sports voucher, just for registering early. When told of his win, Levi’s mum said he’d be able to buy a new pair of footy boots this year! Fantastic to see kids eager about their footy.
We were able to offer this great prize thanks to the kickbacks the club receives when people shop at Amart Sports and nominate the Falcons. Thank you to everyone who helps us out this way!
On the same day Levi received his prize, our club’s biggest ever group of NAB AFL Auskickers joined in their first session. Thanks to Jason for coming out to coach our first couple of sessions.
Our second Auskick session was visited by Roy from the Brisbane Lions. The kids loved seeing Roy up close & personal, there was lots of laughter and squeals of delight when he played ‘Across the Ocean’ with them – not just from the kids either! Have a look at the video over on our facebook page
Jason brought his friend from the Brisbane Lions to Auskick! Great to see you again Roy!Listen to how much fun these kids are having, register your kids ready for next week at www.aflauskick.com.au

Training is not required for this age group, anyone who would like to train can join in with the Under 8 team.
Club Football begins on April 29. Training begins Thursday March 2nd, 4pm at Kalbar. Boys and girls aged 7 and up, 2017 teams are:
