The Falcons in September reach 5 years since the first AGM marked the official beginning of an AFL club in the Fassifern.
At a recent meeting, the club undertook a 5 year review, with an eye to setting an updated 3 year strategic plan.
The meeting found that whilst growth in some areas has been good, retention had not met previous targets, and as such, a new vision was born:
“To have the Fassifern Falcons OWN the code
of AFL in the Fassifern Valley”.
This vision means we are setting about further promoting and developing AFL in the region, while cementing ourselves as the only AFL club in this region.
In an exciting strategic move for the club, we can now announce that we have begun discussions with Boonah State High School as the location of our second venue. This location, along with our established field at Kalbar Showgrounds, will ensure the club’s continued growth and long term viability, with little chance of a new club ever coming to the Fassifern.
The AFL have a preference when starting a new club – that two ovals be developed, and, given the spread of population in this region, Boonah is the obvious place to establish our second field. The club wants to offer two first class facilities for the youth of the Fassifern.
This move means we will be able to offer each of our sponsors more exposure to the Fassifern, and we are confident it will give us a stronghold on AFL in the region.
We are aiming to begin playing some of our juniors games in Boonah from 2017, and can announce that David Edgeworth has come back on board as project manager of the second venue project, while simultaneously managing an upgrade to our Kalbar field – for which we received a grant from Scenic Rim Regional Council.
We thank all of our sponsors, Scenic Rim Regional Council, Jon Krause, Scott Buchholz, AFL Brisbane Juniors, AFL Queensland and of course our players and their families for their fantastic support of our great family club. We look forward to bringing more of Australia’s game to the Fassifern.
